There was little left for Easter
My husband and I had been working non-stop and at a frantic pace for two months… even on weekends: trade fairs, business trips… it never stopped.
Besides being exhausted, we felt like we had entered a spiral of routine that we didn’t see how to get out of.
There was too much stress and not enough excitement….
So we had an idea๐ก
We decided to do something newโผ๏ธ
Something we had never done before๐คญ
….Something that had to do with going on vacation
๐คญ ๐คญ ๐คญ ๐คญ
And we came up with the idea: Prepare a small suitcase and, without having tickets or a destination, go to the airport, and take the first available flight. Wherever it was.
Just like that.
At that time (1985), airplane tickets were purchased at travel agencies or at the airport itself. -The internet would take about 7-8 more years to arrive in our lives-
Along the way, we were thinking of destinations like Bali, Santander, Rio de Janeiro, or Alicante.
Anything was possible.
And we arrived at the airport. What is now terminal 1 of Madrid Barajas.
Almost running.
Impatient.
And finally, the DEPARTURES screen.
And the first destination:
R O M E
But
We had talked about how we didn’t feel like going to a place where everything was about sorrow and tears duringย the holy week processions, and that we wanted something fun and exciting…
Yeah.
But we had also said that we were going to take the first flight out, and that was to Rome.
So we bought two tickets and two hours later, we were already flying towards the Eternal City. We felt like kids on Christmas morning.
When you notice that routine and lack of excitement have moved in with you – or with you all – do something DIFFERENT, BOLD, and FUN to kick them out of your life.
And it doesn’t necessarily have to be something huge:
You can prepare a bottle of champagne ๐พ and two glasses ๐ฅ with some snacks to watch the sunset from a place on the outskirts of the city where you’ve never been before.
Sign up for a sushi or hula dancing course… whatever… the important thing is to do something that you enjoy. And different. New.
It was great for us:
We traveled around the city on a Vespa that we rented and got lost a bunch of times, but thanks to that, we discovered a lot of wonderful corners.๐ต
The food, the people, the history… Rome is a city where I always want to go back to, despite how noisy it is… which is also part of its charm!
And what did I have in my small suitcase, but something that always accompanies me because it can be very useful in spring? A beautiful shawl, similar to this one:

PS: You will probably have to step out of your comfort zone to live an intense experience.
PS2: What original ideas do you have to break the routine?
