πŸŽ‰ THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS LIFE πŸŽ‰

Once again, I was called from the school for a meeting…Β

They wanted to talk to me about my child.Β

Obviously, if they were summoning me, something was wrong…Β

According to them.Β

What a hassle!Β

Always the same.Β

In schools, they only want conformists.Β

Obedient children who cause little trouble.Β

-“The child gets distracted a lot.”Β

– “He doesn’t listen to me when I explain something on the board.”Β

– “He gets distracted by any passing fly.”Β

-“He has a hard time maintaining focus on an activity.”Β

– “Some days he hasn’t done his homework.”Β

– “He has a lot of knowledge, but on topics we haven’t learned in class and that are not of interest now.”Not of interest, they say.Β

Maybe to her.Β

And to the education system.Β

Β

…Because if the kid is crazy about baroque music or astronomy, but that’s not in the textbooks for this school year, then we’re in trouble. We need to talk to the parents…Β

Β

Keko had been listening quietly while we were talking.Β

Β

And when we asked him if he wanted to say something, looking at his tutor, he calmly said:Β

“But what does school matter if the most important thing is LIFE!”Β

This kid is a genius!πŸ’™Β

…That phrase holds more than it seems…Β

And the widespread belief is:Β

Obedient children + good students = you don’t have to worry about their future anymore…Β

(Sorry?…)Β

Is it so difficult to understand that each person has a talent and a way of learning?Β

In their own way.Β

At their own pace.Β

In a specific field.Β

And the rest is challenging for them.Β

I went countless times to talk to the tutors/principals of my two boys (the girl was less rebellious), and I almost always heard the same message:Β

β€’ That they won’t achieve anything in life this way.Β

β€’ That they will be failures. Or – “The child is funny, but he’s not good for studying.”Β

😀

It frustrated me that they couldn’t see their talents.Β

Like every child, like every person, they have come to do something special to this world, we just have to discover what it is.Β

Of course, they must have a foundation in many areas of knowledge to later develop the one that suits their talent the most.Β

But to measure everyone by the same yardstick, well, no.Β

AS IF THE FAIREST SELECTION WERE TO GIVE THEM ALL THE SAME TESTS!!!Β

Β

Translation of the text in the following photograph

“OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM”

“For a fair selection, everyone must go through the same exam: Please climb that tree.”

There is so much talent around me πŸ’«Β

Look:Β

My niece Kira, who is very skilled with her hands and will soon make the best dental prosthetics in the world.Β

Daniel, my partner, who has a spatial vision and an immense talent for architecture.Β

My children Keko and Kenya, both with sensitivity and charisma!!! … And what an art they have!!! I’m sure they will achieve their goals in the challenging world of art because they are worth it and they are fighters!Β

My son Roberto, who maintains a balance between a rich spiritual life combined with great discipline in physical exercise. He loves reading and has a constant interest in learning. With that potential, he will go as far as he sets his mind to.Β

My sister MarΓa, who speaks I don’t even know how many languages (is it 8?), and has an extraordinary ability to read, write, and express herself in all of them, you would be amazed.Β

That’s just in my closest family, if I start talking about my friends, I could write a book.Β

So, what’s wrong with the conventional education system?Β

And some parents???Β

Well, they are willing to do anything for their children except letting them be themselves…Β

That needs to change.Β

Because each of us has come to do something different, and we have a special talent. And that cannot be measured by the same ruler πŸ“Β

I hope your children discover their talents and contribute them to this world because that’s how they will be much happier!Β

Speaking of talent… the artisans we gather at Ohana have that combination of technique and creativity that leads to the creation ofΒ  divine pieces.Β

Β

Like this handcrafted bag made using the Mawisa palm basketry technique.Β

Β

Isn’t it beautiful?Β

Hugs,

Teresa 🌺

Β

PS: Finding the perfect school is a challenge, let me tell you… πŸ“Β

PS2: Can you believe that we lived in Madrid and I couldn’t find a school where they knew how to guide and understand children with a lot of talent and a different way of learning!! 😫. If you have school-aged children, I wish you luck and patience.Β

PS3: If you work in education, congratulations if you’re one of those who understand that every student has a special talent.Β
