🌴 My mother and the cuban gardener 🌴

Have you ever experienced running into someone on the other side of the world?

Being in a place where you would have never expected to come across someone you know??

Well, it has happened to me several times!!!!!

But today, I’m going to tell you what happened to us in Cuba 🇨🇺

We travelled to spend Christmas at a beautiful beach🏝

It was 18 years ago, but I remember it as if it were yesterday.

We were staying at a gorgeous hotel, right by the sea…

My mother has always been a big gardening enthusiast.

And as she strolled around that hotel in Varadero, she would strike up conversations with one of the gardeners and ask him how to take care of certain plants.

The man, who was already quite elderly, in his wisdom, would explain to my mother how to prune, fertilize, and care for each plant, so they would spend some time chatting.

As we were leaving, at the airport, we were joking around, asking my mother if she would miss the gardener….

She, always very discreet, told us:

“Don’t say that, it sounds like I had a romance in Cuba… what if someone overhears you and misinterprets the whole thing…”

We replied laughing: “Come on! Who’s going to recognize you around here!”

Just then, someone called her by her name and asked: “Is that you?”

My mother, pale, turned around and saw one of her neighbors.

There, at José Martí Airport in Havana ‼️

They greeted each other and talked for a few minutes about the days they had spent in Cuba.

Once the neighbor walked away, my mother, all flustered, said to us:

“You see? She definitely heard you!! How embarrassing, my goodness!! At my 79 years …!!!

We laughed for a good while, but it took her some time to recover from the situation… 😅

Well, that’s it.

You never know who you’re going to run into.

And appearances can be deceiving…

So when you leave the house, you may want to be careful about what you do in case you come across someone you least expect, or simply enjoy the present without limitations.

For now, we don’t have anything from Cuba in Ohana, but who knows!

But take a look at this beautiful flower bracelet made with Miyuki beads from Japan.

One of those handmade accessories that are elegant and that you’ll treasure for a lifetime…
