๐ฆ STARTLED BY THE LIONESS ๐ฆ
…One of those trips you remember for your ENTIRE LIFE
๐ฟ๐ฆ South Africa 2003
The typical: Photographic safari ๐ท through Kruger National Park…
You set off in the jeep early in the morning, bundled up because it’s freezing.
The previous day, we had already seen four of the Big Five. We only needed to see the lion.
The king of the jungle.
We left the lodge full of excitement to explore the paths of South Africa’s largest animal reserve for one more day.
It was cold.
We were well wrapped up, but it’s always cold in Africa at dawn.
We enjoyed the scent of the wet grass and, above all, the reddish hue of the sky as the sun timidly emerged.
What no one expected was that we were about to experience something that would make us fear for our physical integrity or even our livesโฆ
And suddenly, a pride of lions
With lionesses and their cubs.
The driver stopped the engine, and we all fell silent, admiring the beautiful scene and taking photos.
Feeling so at ease… What an experience!!! ๐
But suddenly, a lioness spotted us and stealthily approached our jeep, looking unfriendly.
She stopped.
She started walking again, but with an increasingly faster pace.
The jeep was completely open.
Not one of those closed vans that only open from the top, no.
One of those jeeps where your legs are within reach of any feline that decides you’re their breakfast that day.
So, suddenly, she starts running towards us, and at that moment, the driver starts the engine and accelerates to escape from an attack as unexpected as it was unusual. ๐ฑ
You never know with a mother.
She would do anything to protect her cubs.
Just like anyone would.
Worrying about our children.
ย
Will they be happy?
Will they choose the right partner?
Will they know how to manage their emotions and grow as individuals?
And… in these times we live in! Will they find a fulfilling job? When will they become independent?
ย
Surely, all of that wasn’t what concerned the lioness.
But it concerns you. And me, as I have three.
Just like all mothers. ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ

PS: Funny things happen when you leave home… ๐ We were scared to death, but we would all go through that tremendous experience again without hesitation…
